On 11th July 2024, Indigo Apartment returned with their summer anthem Shake The Handle. It comes off the back of a series of electric festival competitions and arguably could be dubbed their biggest single yet.

With massive hooks, a huge chorus and a whole lot of charm, Shake The Handle pieces together the ‘indie hit’ puzzle together beautifully while remaining as gritty as ever. You'll become obsessed with this if you’re a fan of The Royston Club or The Backseat Lovers. Think Mrs Narssistic or Maple Syrup, with a new flavour.

The track is when you wake up one morning with no strength to leave your bed covers, as all of life’s issues pounce at you simultaneously. There’s a defiance in the melody, encouraging you to keep going. It’s no surprise to find out, that this track presented itself to the band in the dark days of national lockdowns (2020).

It’ll have your worst days turning into some of your best, or provide a moment of release when you need it most. Lyrically, using the phrase ‘shake the handle’ for both the protagonist's mental state and bedroom door, was very clever.

The bedroom felt like it acted as a double meaning; being glued their physically, and also being a representation of the mind’s inner traps.

Shake The Handle sets down the marker for Indigo Apartment’s new direction; the first single of our new era is raw and energetic, saturated and fulfilling. It makes you want to move” explains Fin.

Indigo Apartment was established in 2022 by brothers Monty and Fin, completing the line-up with the arrival of Sarah Cunnane and Luke Desmond. The Watford four-piece has released a string of adventurous big-hitters, taking inspiration from The Strokes, R.E.M and Weezer.

They haven’t gone unnoticed, backed by Future Hits and BBC Introducing. Indigo Apartment’s debut EP, Slip Away, entered the world last year and spawned genre-mashing tunes Teen Feet From The Sun and What Time Do You Call This?

Shake The Handle has done exactly what it intended. It’s moved the dial. If the band were a cocktail, the drink would be mixed and ready. All that’s left is for you to drink it up, and enjoy the fruity delight. Summer’s here, let’s have it.

Keep up to date with the band, or see them live here.

Now, it’s your turn. Give it a spin, and tell us what you think on Insta or X.
