Telling the story of two people, two lives and two stories, 222 is about our shared perceptions on love.

After a charming debut earlier this year, Manchester quartet daisychain has returned with another flowery indie banger 222.

The track releases on 9th August 2024, aptly planned as the 222nd day of the year and is another step closer to an EP.

222 was road-tested on multiple occasions before release, including their Easter return to Old Pint Pot in May. Similarly to Stay, it was produced by long-term friends and peers Super Market. Musically, the band leans further into their pool of eclectic influences to create an impressive sophomore single.

Telling the story of two people, two lives and two stories, 222 is about our shared perceptions on love. While still touching on adolescence, and the shared theme of growing up, it feels less trivial and more visceral.

Lead singer, Lissy Nicholson, explains: “222 is the first song I've written in a while for the band that feels like it’s completely me. It’s just honest and about the desire I had to be loved, like I guess I thought that it would complete something in me and it made me start to look for meaning and signs in everything.”

We all know that the best things come in pairs, and 222 is a reflection of that. Everything about the song feels uplifting, optimistic and liberating. Partly down to the band doubling down on their jangly sound, an incredibly addictive chorus and Lissy’s unique vocal style.

Their now-proven knack for contrasting emotions through music and lyricism continues and feels stronger too. The same tactics are employed from Stay, harking back to the deeply-rooted influence of The Smiths. “To be loved must be such a wonderful thing” is a clever nod to Oscar Wilde, and wouldn’t have felt out of place if Morrisey penned it himself.

Something is sparkling around daisychain. What appears to be excitement for now, might turn into a genuine breakthrough moment. It won’t take long for their cult following on the Manchester scene to reach the rest of the UK, and once they hit London, big things await for the jangly indie outfit. A song like 222 fits gorgeously alongside your favourite summer indie tunes.

daisychain is formed by childhood friends Joe Bryan (drums) and Lissy Nicholson (lead vocals/guitar), with Lewis Jeffrey (guitar) and Harris Briggs (bass). The band take to the stage on August 9th in Manchester for another show, tickets on sale now.
