Flat Party have returned with a jagged-alt-rock single, Shotgun. Released on 24th July 2024 via Submarine Cat Records, the single follows an impressive debut EP.
Adamant on never being pigeonholed, Flat Party take their quirky and unconventional approach to new heights on Shotgun. The track explores hedonism face-first with a Bowie-esque stature.
If you listen closely, you might start pinpointing the vast array of fun instruments being used. Flat Party have always had a knack for creating tangibly colourful worlds, and here is no different.
While their self-titled EP centred predominantly around massive riffs (I’m Bored, Give Me Love) and rock roots (Glanes In The Dark), Shotgun starts to learn about a number of their other influences. By doing so, the track feels more full and bursting with character. We started to see this side of the band on Hindsight, a style Bowie perfected in the 70’s.
We first discovered Flat Party back in February, with their energetic support slot for indie provocateurs, Courting. The band was formed by vocalist Jack Lawther and guitarist/vocalist Rory O’Rourke, after the duo met whilst studying in Bath, before moving to London in 2021 where the vision for Flat Party came to fruition.
“What we’re mostly about is escapism. Rory and I have had similar upbringings, we both grew up in towns devoid of any real culture and so music, art and literature were the only things that excited us; I think this is why our lyrics are very visual. We want to paint worlds for people to step into for three minutes and just forget about everything else.” explains Jack.
Shotgun is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for one of indie’s most understated new bands.
