The Amazons have returned with the cinematic new single Living A Lie. The single is the first in over two years and lights the fuse to their long-anticipated new era.

After losing drummer Joe Emmett so that he could prioritise family, the remaining trio have been hell-bent on reinventing themselves. Cue the shows. An almost endless list spanning 12 months, ticking off venues up and down the UK, enormous festival appearances and hitting the road with Greta Van Fleet for a second time. Along the way, there were plenty of bucket list moments, including a long-overdue main stage appearance at Reading and Leeds.

Living A Lie encapsulates “an anxiety about the future and a frustration with the past” explains frontman Matt Thomson. “It’s an ode to staring at the ceiling in the early hours of the morning, when little fictions turn into hard truths in the stillness of the night.”

The single also harks back to the grittier and darker route employed on their sophomore record Future Dust. While receiving mixed critical reviews, it was a staple indie-rock album of 2019 and has since become a fan favourite.

There’s no denying Living A Lie is the most artistic and cinematic single from the band to date. After also teasing Night After Night on the road, this new era could bring them back into the mainstream spotlight.

The Amazons initially climbed the charts with their self-titled record in 2017, delivering enough stadium-ready riffs to pack out festival crowds up and down the country. Hailing from Reading, they’ve stayed true to their roots, even partnering up with Reading FC.
